Transferring in, where should I Live?

SolarPoweredSolarPowered 1 replies1 discussions
I'm transferring in this fall, will be in the E-school. With regard to housing, my primary concern is being close to my classes. I'm socially outgoing and want to live in an environment that fosters social interaction but won't detract from my studies. I'm mostly considering off Grounds but am open to considering on Grounds. Since it could matter for this topic, I should note that I'm a guy.

Any suggestions?

On grounds for e'school Bice is probably going to be closer. Lambeth is also very popular with upperclassman, and while further from the e'school it's still a very easy walk, and the bus is a straight shot. My e'school son walked to classes in the morning, stayed on grounds throughout his scheduled classes for the day, studying in between in libraries or got lunch, then took the bus home in the afternoon. For off grounds many options off JPA are probably going to be closest to the e'school, although the Corner isn't 'far'.You'll find the area very walkable and the buses help with rides home when you're tired or there's bad weather.

I'd suggest taking a look at some of the student facebook groups, where people might still be looking for an apartment-mate. One, for example, is the Official University of Virginia Class of 2015 Group.

Thanks for the info. I've mostly been looking at apartments on JPA. I'll take a look at the student facebook groups.

Copeley is the greatest distance away from classes and the greatest distance away from most other undergrads. Parts of it were built for families of GIs after WWII.

A transfer for McIntire I wouldn't advise any differently. I think there is a big benefit to transfer students of spending a year on grounds. I would check the fb page for the class of 2016, current rising second year students, as there is a much greater percentage staying on grounds. Some will be looking to get out of their housing contract if they decided late they'd rather live off grounds. Students have to commit in December. A lot can change socially for first year students by May. They'll frequently post on the fb pages. Also check 2015, but I think you'll have more luck with 2016.
