UNC Kenan-Flager Admission Transfer

YachaoYachao 3 replies1 discussions Forum Champion
I am a newly admitted transfer student from St. Louis CC. My intended major is business, and I have recently found out that to be admitted in the business program at UNC(Kenan-Flager Business School), you have to again apply for their admission. After doing some research here and there, I understand that all transfer students are required to stay at least a semester at the College of Arts and Science before they can apply for the business program. Also, many students have said that being admitted is very hard, especially for OOS transfer students, like myself.. So there are my questions:

1. How hard is it for transfer students to be admitted?
2. Will my grades and involvements at my CC play a role in the admission process? (I have a 4.0 gpa and the president of two clubs, one of them is Business Club).

3. If my resume shows a lack of working experiences, will it have impact on my chances of being admitted?
4. What classes should I take there at UNC my first semester? (Through the credit evaluation report they have taken my credits for ENGL 105, ECON 101, STOR 155, MATH 231&232)

Sorry for asking so many questions! You probably can tell that I am a little panicked! (that'd be an understatement..) I came to UNC because I just really want to study in their business program, and if somehow I cannot get in.. that'd be really a bummer o_o

Any answers will be appreciated!

Hello, Yachao. For the course requirement, I would ask an academic advisor if I were you.

Edit: I just found a worksheet for you: search for "unc academic advising." Then go into "curriculum tools" and download the "business (2012) worksheet" under the "worksheet" category. You would find out what courses you need to take to fulfill the requirement of your major.

I used to decide to major in business; however, my class standing(second year sophomore) made me difficult to graduate within eight semesters in time. As I thought my final career goal is to be a lawyer, I changed to major in economy. Hope this help. :) (Always have a backup major since the admission of business major is competitive!) :)

You have to take Econ 410 and Busi 101 or 107. They are KF pre-reqs. You don't need to have them complete to apply, but, they must be complete before your 1st semester in KF. Otherwise, you seem to have the other pre-reqs covered. Additionally, focus on knocking off some of your Gen Ed requirements needed to graduate UNC. Use ConnectCarolina's search engine to find courses that hit multiple Gen Ed categories with a single course. That will help with your compressed time frame to graduation.

They will look at your transfer courses and grades. Many incoming undergrad KF students do not have work experience (I didn't). In general about 50% of the KF applicants get admitted (that is overall, not specific to transfers). In your application and interview, stress your business club involvement and leadership roles). They are very big on leadership.

Hey Newyawk, thanks for replying! If you don't mind me asking, are you currently an undergrad KF student? If you're, I would love to have you share some thoughts on the questions i still have.

When you had your interview, were some of the questions asked similar to the ones from BSBA interview practice? and how long was the interview? I am just trying to get a general idea of the interview and trying to get prepared for it..

Very similar. Mine was about 30 mins. However, I was a KF assured admit.

Hey guys I'm transferring to UNC as a economics major and gonna apply to business school on fall semester. I'm currently taking Calculus 1 right now and I think I will end up with a "C". I know I have to retake the math course in UNC, but does having a "C" dramatically bring down the chance of getting accepted? I have an internship experience, plenty of EC with leadership position, and planning to write solid essay based on my life experience and career goals.

KF will take a holistic view. However, a "C" (not C-) is the absolute minimum they will accept on any of their pre-reqs and KF admissions are competitive.

This is their latest published transfer admissions profile.

    Admitted Major Transfer Profile
    # Admitted 81
    # Denied 78
    Average GPA 3.57
    Average SAT 1312.6
