How late can you declare a double major?

MikaliMikali 1 replies1 discussions
I transferred to UCSB last fall. I am an English major and will have completed all but two of my major reqs by the end of this summer. I want to try and double major in Classics but would need an extra year to finish everything as I only have two classes completed for it. How likely am I to get an extension? Any info from anyone who has double majored or declared a double major their third year would be great.

Mikali, are you the one who asked about learning Latin or Greek? I think we spoke before. I didn't know you already go here.

You need to talk with the Classics undergraduate advisor, Anna Roberts. I recommend calling her asap and scheduling an appointment. She is very helpful. Here's her office: HSSB 4043.

I have a friend who tried to add Classics with language and literature during his fourth year (already a double major too)! He would have had to write a petition, which he ended up not doing. I think you have a great chance of getting into the major, depending which Classics major it is: Archeology, Civilization, or Lang. and Lit.

I study Classics, so I know about it fairly well if you have other questions.

EDIT: Out of curiosity, which Classics classes have you taken already?

Yes I am the one who asked about Latin and Greek. I actually have an appointment with Anna tomorrow to discuss things. I want to do the Greek and Latin Cultures emphasis. I have taken Class 40 and I am in Class 130 this quarter. I also took something that seems equivalent to Class 80A at UCSC before I transferred here.

Oh, great! She will definitely be able to answer all the questions you have here. I am also the culture emphasis now (switched from lang and lit because didn't want to continue taking both latin and greek simultaneously, and I prefer Greek anyway).
