Thinking about Thanksgiving already!

Ok, I know that it may sound nuts, but I am thinking about Thanksgiving already! I have already booked flights for 1-Orientation, 2- Move - in and 3- Parents Weekend/homecoming. As I perfect my new-found talents as a travel agent, it occurs to me that I could start working on Thanksgiving as well.
So...question...when do the kids usually come home for Thanksgiving (Tuesday thru Sunday?). Are there classes on Wednesday? Is there a schedule for 2013-14 out yet?

Ah, but back in the day there did used to be classes on that Wednesday. As Tulane continued to get more geographically diverse (not that it wasn't pretty much so back then) I guess they got a lot of pressure about how tough it was to get home for T-day, which it was. Had some pretty great Thanksgivings at Tulane though. Once there was a bunch of us that were fairly tight, I think about 12, that were "stuck" there so we did our own dinner in the grand ballroom in JL. There is a full kitchen in the basement, and really turned out to be quite fabulous. Turkey, stuffing, oysters, salad, rolls, potatoes, couple of veggies, and about 4 pies. And wine. Drinking age was 18 then.

That is probably my favorite story on that topic, but a close second was my freshman year in my Honors Chemistry class. There were only 11 of us, so the profs knew us well. The one teaching that 5 week segment of the course (that is how they team-taught it back then) was a John Houseman (Paper Chase) type without the physical stature. One of my classmates raised his hand and asked the prof if we were really going to have a quiz(!) on Wednesday, and he replied "Why yes, Mr. Henley. I hope that isn't going to interfere with your ski vacation in the Alps."

I'm thinking about Thanksgiving already too, but I'm going THERE! Why bring my son back to the cold weather? ;)

Great idea mavitale! I just looked into flights.....if it sounds too good to be true (Air Trans).....they post a $250 deal round trip from NOLA to NYC (for S to come home) - when you finish filling in all the fields they post that the flight(s) are no longer available - but here is a flight for almost double! Very annoying....it did that on several discount sites.

I'll have to check out flights. I've only booked the other three trips so far... ;)

Delta has some good flights from LGA ($381). The cheaper flights are JFK and that's not as convenient. I'll also check White Plains (close to me) but there are rarely non-stops.

You should book the Thansgiving flights asap! Freshman year we ended up paying $650 rt to Boston! The problem is that the flights on the Sunday after Thanksgiving are very expensive. Since it was her first time travelling alone I wanted her on a nonstop. Jet Blue is the only nonstop to Boston so we just went with it. Now that she is a seasoned traveller we book whatever is cheapest and I don't worry about her changing planes.

The good news is that the flights home for Xmas (and you can't book them until you know their finals schedule)are usually prretty cheap because they more flexibility in leaving and going back and can usually travel midweek for less. And they get out early enough that it isn't that close to Xmas when the fares go way up.

Now that I have a freshman starting at U Miami and D1 fisnishing her sophomore year at Tulane I feel like a travel agent with the number of flights I am booking!
