I share your concerns about housing, but I don't think that the situation is much different from many other state universities. I would like my son to live on campus for all four years, but at least two is preferred. He'll have 30 - 40 college credits so I suppose it may be possible to graduate in 3 yrs and then move on to grad school.November 2012

Upstate.....my son is a soph at Bama...we live in Plano TX for the last 20 years. I grew up in Albany NY ( Latham actually), went to Siena College...my wife is from Rochester and went to Nazareth.
Where in upstate are you....?
Bama is a special place......my son couldnot imagine being anywhere else.....
thanks for the feedback, how does he find the travelling back and forth? a connecting flight and then hour ride to campus (how is the shuttle service?), also has me a little worried, at least at first that will be a little nervewracking. airfare isn't too bad though (got tix for $300 for our visit downZ)October 2012
Hi, I am from NY too. We live on Long Island. My son is a freshman and is an accounting major at UA. He was the only kid that went to Alabama from our town and kids also thought it was weird but I can say it was the best thing for my son. My son is thriving at Alabama and meeting new people from all over the country. He loves his classes and has joined lots of clubs. It was the right choice for him. The southern hospitality has been very welcoming. I highly recommend the school. Any questions please feel free to private message me.October 2012
