How do I find out if my son got a Corporate Sponsored NM Scholarship? He got letter that he was a finalist in January asking him to fill out paperwork and school was asked to send a recommendation. If I haven't heard anything else from NM, does this mean he did not get it? No announcement yet at work.

Just beginning to haunt the pre-med posts and noticed you are there, too! Do you just know about everything? :) I think S is going to go to UTD and major in their new BS in Healthcare Studies (http://www.utdallas.edu/academics/fact-sheets/is/bs-healthcare-studies.html) and stay in the new pre-health living learning community. He should be able to finish BS in three years, as he will have 27 hours of AP/dual credit. Both the major and the LLC will give him contact and volunteer experience at UT Southwestern Hospital/Medical School. Plan B if he does not get into med school right away is to do a masters in Healthcare Management or Biotechnology, and maybe try again or just get a job :) See any flaws in the plan?

Hi Joan, as we're moving down through the year, prepping for the upcoming housing selection, I was wondering, do you have any advice on which rooms/floors to shoot for in honors housing next year?

Hey mom2collegekids! :) I saw your post last year regarding rushing at 'Bama. Out of curiosity, which sorority were you from? I'm desperately trying to find recs for rush at the school which I'm attending this fall, but living overseas somewhat limits my ties to any form of greek life. If your sorority also has a chapter at my school, could you help me out here? A MILLION THANKS TO YOU :D

    Hello,
I thought since you live in Huntsville, you might have some feedback on concerns about my daughter's first-choice school of Samford. The min gpa there to retain scholarshp is 3.0, and she plans to interview for their honor's program which appears academically rigorous. She received a great scholarship from Hanover College in southern Indiana (about 4 hrs north of us in Nashville) in which she only needs to keep a 2.0 for scholarship. I agree that Samford is a good fit with her Christian conservatism, but she is not great at pushing herself with subjects she doesn't like, ie math & science. What do you know about the percentage of students that lose their scholarships in this way. Btw, she would definitely have to transfer if she lost the scholly. Thanks--Susan

    Hello,
My name is Emily Glazer and I'm a reporter for The Wall Street Journal newspaper. I'm working on an article about tackling the financial aid process and saw your smart comments on College Confidential. Are you open to a brief phone interview for the story? I'd love to hear more about your experience and how you made it a successful one.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
    Emily

University of Texas. I had applied to Boston for the Trustee Scholarship but I doubt that it will come through. When I say highly ranked, I mean at par with unis like UVA or University of Illinois. I can't really look at any of the liberal arts because they dont have engineering. Purdue too claims to not offer internationals scholarships but i have heard of many people getting scholarships during their course. Deadlines end in a week and I would really appreciate if you could give me all the information possible on aid for internationals. Thank you so much!

    Hi,

I don't know of any fairly highly ranked schools that give large merit scholarships to int'ls. How highly ranked do you mean? Also, many of the mid-level ranked schools had a Dec 1 deadline for consideration. Which Texas schools do you know have int'ls attending on free rides based on merit??

    hey mom2collegekids,

I'm an international student applying to US colleges. I have a 2250 SAT1 and a 2400 on SAT 2 (Physics, Chem, Math 2) and fairly good Extra Curriculars. It is a bit pretentious of me, but I have applied to only the top schools (all ivies) and chicago and duke among others in the hope of getting some sort of aid or merit based scholarships. Could you recommend a few other unis I can apply to, which give out merit based scholarships or aid? I'm looking for places that are fairly highly ranked. Most sites say that scholarships etc are not available to internationals but I do know of some people going to unis such as Texas with full rides even know the college websites say otherwise. Please help me out!

Yes, the app is very simple.

He'll get his CWID in a day or so (by email) since he just submitted his app. Since he applied by Dec 1, he'll still be ok but tell him to get the scholarship app in today if he gets the email.

CWID is College Wide Identification. That will be his student number.

You might want to send scholarships@ua.edu an email about needing the CWID. Include your son's info in the email.

No, his ACT doesn't need to be in by then. What about his SAT? He needs a SAT for becoming a NMF.

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me out. My son just applied to Alabama, but the application looked strangely simple, just very basic info and $40. He wants to try to fill out the scholarship app, but it says he needs a CWID. Can you tell me what that is? Will Alabama send that info to him? He is concerned about getting his info in in time for the Dec. 1 deadline. Also do you know if his ACT needs to be in by then also? Any info you can share would be greatly appreciated. BTW he is a NMSF.

Ok..sorry for the confusion.I thought you remembered my details.I am an international student.I don't care that much about the location.Just the assurance that if I am a stellar student there,I could go to a good grad school.

Hi.I cannot seem to post pm thanks to some 15 post rule.I had contacted you earlier and you gave me some good advice.Would you be so kind to give your opinion about Troy university?I have been accepted there on a full ride(tuition, room and board). What I wish to know is that if I apply for phd after my college, how would grad school perceive my troy school education? If I maintain a great gpa and do research, would I be a good candidate or would Troy hamper those chances?

I know that you've been offered a free ride. Unusual that they're letting you have it for a spring admission.

You're asking my opinion on the school. It's an ok school, but out in the middle of nowhere, which some don't like. Are you instate for Alabama?

If you went to another school, do you need a free ride? Is that the issue?
    October 2012
  • mom2collegekids
Radner....do you need a free ride? What is your budget for college? how much will your parents pay? Are you instate for alabama?

I'm not sure about LA Tech's policy. I think you should email the int'l admissions office and ask for their official policy. Good luck!

When we were in this situation, we directly asked the GC at the school if the school's part had been sent in. I would send an email to the GC. You can try calling NMCorp, but I don't know if they would tell you. You wouldn't get an email from NMCorp telling you that the school had done their part.
