Hi Fallenchemist, I've read all of your posts considering Tulane and I have found them to be really informative. I can not send you a private message because I have not posted enough. I hope that you could give me some advice concerning my undergraduate college decision. I'm considering Tulane and Texas Austin. I plan to major in the natural sciences, Chem or Bio. I love Tulane because of it's intimacy and dedication to undergrad research. However, I have just heard back about being accepted into a prestigious Natural Sciences Program at Texas that will get me enrolled in their Freshman Research Initiative. Texas has a greater variety of programs and facilities. Financially, I would need to work to establish residency at Texas, and I would also most likely try for a five year masters program or PHD program there. Compared to Tulane where I would have to seek a scholarship at a different graduate School. Should I go to Tulane, whereas I would hopefully standout, or should I go to Texas?

Hi FC, have been reading your various posts. May I request you for your opinion on the acceptances that I have received. I am really really confused and would appreciate any input at all. I have acceptances from Johns Hopkins, UCLA, UCSD, USC and George Washington ($80,000 scholarship). I am an international student and if tuition was not an issue, how would you rank them? I am keen to pursue medicine but will switch to biotechnology if I cant hack it.
    Thanks so so much.

Hi fallenchemist, I'm a little torn between two schools, UC Berkeley and Tulane. I have definitely seen your name multiple times and we had a chat about something or other on a forum before. Do you think you could help me? Thanks!

Hi fallenchemist, I noticed your name on a lot of the Tulane posts and was wondering if you could tell me a little about Tulane. I'm a perspective track recruit and I'm choosing between BU and Tulane. Overall, BU has a better program and better facilities, but I live in Boston and I don't really want to stick around. The biggest concerns I have about Tulane are the outdated dorms and the party/sorority scene, I've also heard a lot of stories about the dining hall being bad. Is there anything you could tell me about those things?

Hi there, it looks like you're the go to guy when it comes to receiving acceptances/rejections from many colleges. What do you know about UCLA?

Hey Fallenchemist, do you know by any chance WHEN we find out about the Paul Tulane and DHS scholarship? And how? Will it be an e-mail or a letter?

Hi Fallenchemist. I was wondering if I could ask you a couple of questions. I am into Tulane, but I have applications pending at GW, Wisconsin, Miami, and USC. You seem very knowledgeable about all of these schools, from what i've seen on previous forums. Thanks.

FC, you have been uncharacteristically quiet during today's Gibson snafu. It's maddeningly frustrating for those of us still waiting though we of course have no choice but to wait and wonder. Any inside scoop on what the blank/complete/blank thing means, if anything?

Thanks for getting back to me. I did see you at the Boston event in September and wanted to introduce myself, but DD and DH did not want to stay after. It was a full house! We were impressed with the presentation by the admissions counselor, alum and current students and the program was more informative than the local Emory event. Also, the Tulane hat was a nice touch!

Hi Fallenchemist, I've been watching the Tulane threads closely and "lurking". You're posts are especially helpful. My DD's application was complete a week ago and she checks Gibson every day or every other day. Tulane is one of three top schools for her and we're anxiously awaiting news, hopefully good news. She has visited Tulane and attended the local event. Her gpa is 4.17 weighted, 2060 sat, class pres 3 years, many other extra curric& service, and has worked part time year round since sophomore year. She did write a nice "why Tulane" essay. Do you think she is likely to hear good news?

    Fallenchemist,
I have seen you on the American University forum as well as Tulane. Do you have a student at AU as well? D applied to both. Obviously very different experiences. I would be interested in your views on AU. D is interested in Int'l Studies which AU excels in. Wondering about the social scene on campus & accessibility of nightlife.

FC, you serve two very important functions for me. One: you are a great source of info and advocate for Tulane. Two: I feel a little better about compulsively checking CC because you log on ALMOST as much as I do.
That said, I do have a question. D sent her application today. The confirmation email contained log in info that does not work. Any idea why? Is this the Gibson log in that everyone has been writing about or is it something else?
Thanks for all the great info.

Hey FC! with every post i read by you I learn more and more about tulane. hopefully you remember me from the threads. I have a quick question about applying EA vs. SCEA. At this point, i really want to apply SCEA to Tulane, because all of the other schools i wanted to apply early to are ED and not EA, so i will have to be reapplying RD to those schools. I was just wondering though if i were to apply SCEA, if it would decrease my chance at scholarships, because applying SCEA shows tulane that they are my only choice for the early round, and i fear that they might not offer me as much scholarships if they know ill attend no matter what.

Hi FC - I have learned so much about Tulane from reading your posts. Thank you. My D will submit her SCEA to Tulane next week. She is from a good public high school in MA. She attended Tulane in your Town and will visit the campus in Nov. Her WGPA is 4.4 and ACT 30 (she is taking ACTs again at the end of Oct) Varsity Field Hockey, Natl Honor Society, and other ECs. What are her chances?

    Hey fallenchemist,
I just have two quick questions, since it seems like you know a lot about Tulane. First, how important is your ACT score compared to your GPA, extracurriculars, and class rigor? I am submitting a 27 and I am just worried that the score would decrease my chances. Every thing else I feel like is up to par.
Second, do you know anything about the Digital Media Productions program at Tulane? Is it very hands-on or more theoretical? That also goes for the communications department. Would you consider those good programs at Tulane?

Hi fallenchemist, I have followed your comments in various Tulane threads over the summer, but just noticed that you have been posting a lot in the Emory threads as well. Are you a parent of students at both schools? I am the mother of a senior at Elon and a current HS senior who has identified UNC Chapel Hill, Emory and Tulane as her top three schools. We have seen all three schools, but have only attended info sessions and campus tours. I have been following College Confidential all summer and it seems that you have a solid understanding of Tulane and admissions at Tulane. We live in Massachusetts and are registered to go to the Tulane admissions session at the Newton Marriott towards the end of September. We are going to the Emory admissions session this Sunday. In your opinion, do you think that Tulane will change its admissions this year due to the high yield during the past two years? Do you think the Emory data reporting incident will affect applications and admissions there?

    Hello,
    I had three quick questions:
If I appealed admissions for merit scholarship, when and how will I be notified about this if I do receive anything?
When will we hear about CSS notifications?
Do we need to send Tulane end of the year averages?

    Thanks so much!

Remember me? Its been a while since we last spoke. I always check the Tulane threads, still love the school, although my S is extemely happy in Stanford. So we feel the right choice was made. In any case, here's my question. I fell in love with NOLA and want to take my d there during the easter break. I was thinking of staying a couple of nights at a beach resort and then two nights in NOLA. Can you recommend any nice beach resort. Also I want to do a swamp boat ride with her and all the touristy things. Can you make any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it. And yes we will be checking out Tulane. D is only in 9th grade but I really want her to see it.

    Thanks again!

Hello, you told me on another thread that I could still write a "Why Tulane" essay. I would love to know how this would still be possible as I truly am wanting to go to Tulane.

Hello! I applied EA and was accepted this past Thursday. I have not yet gotten a packet in the mail, but I am assuming I did not get any merit aid or acceptance into the Honors Program. My WGPA is 4.03 and ACT is 30 (31 superscored). I come from a school that Tulane seems to LOVE (20+ people accepted this year). Is there any way to petition for merit/honors program with strong first semester grades or a letter of intent? Tulane is one of my top choices and I am very interested in the TAP-TP Accelerated Medical Program. It is my understanding that you need to be in the Honors program to apply for admission to TAP-TP. Do you have any advice? Thank you!

Thank you. I think she is a pretty strong candidate but I guess you never know. 32 ACT. Ranked 10/475. 3.9 unweighted, 4.8 weighted. Varsity water polo three years. Black belt taekwondo, Pan Am and National female juvenile champion in jiu jitsu. 300 hours community service for National Charity League. Has worked three summer jobs: lifeguard with all the certifications and head of aquatics at a summer camp. So, we are keeping our fingers because she loves it and it is her first choice above and beyond all others. Thanks for your help.

You seem to know more than anyone about Tulane. Any chance you know when they will start notifying the SCEA applicants. My daughter is on pins and needles. Also, I cannot figure out how to start a thread for Fall 2012 Tulane admissions. Any chance you could do this. Thanks so much.

I have a D who is a rising senior. She wants to major in Pharmacology/Chemistry. She wants to work in a pharmaceutical lab. Her choices are Tulane, Duke, UNC and Vanderbilt. Her ACT is 27. She has a 3.2 GPA and Sea Cadets and Marching band are her ECs during the year. Past summers she has been to STEM at Naval Academy, Gov School, SC summer trainings, volunteers 2 wks at the Nat & Sci Musem and this summer she has a paid internship at UT Southwestern in Pharmacology dept. I am concerned that her current scores and GPA may not be competitive enough for any type of scholarships at the schools she has chosen and we are definitely in need of scholarships. Can you please suggest some quality schools for her major that will be excited about her stats and potentially give her some money for college. We will be visiting these schools this summer, but I feel we need to have some "safer" schools in the bag. I will also mention that she is African American.
