Hi Mary Jo!
So excited that Christina is going to attend the on campus audition at CCU!! Alexa suggested that Christina email her a couple of weeks before her audition date just to "reintroduce" herself to the folks at CCU. She also said to make sure she is ready to take direction and make adjustments during the workshops. In addition to dance attire, she should also bring jazz pants and flats to be prepared for the monologue workshop. They usually have lots of movement in that one. Of course be prepared with questions for Ken during the interview portion. And I think primarily let the faculty see her personality! CCU is building a class that they want to work with for 4 years. They are looking for students who want to be there, who are excited about what the programs offers, who want to be a part of an ensemble!
Break legs wishes to Christina!!January 2013
You gave me some great feedback last year about your D's experience with CCU. Just realized that I think we met her in Dallas at Moonified auditions. Christina loved everyone from CCU and is SO EXCITED that she was asked to come to campus auditons. We will be going to CCU Feb 1-2. She has been accepted at Ohio Northern and Univ. of Tampa so far and should know about Point Park next week. We had a callback for Otterbein and went to campus mid-Dec. Loved Otterbein but they take so few girls I think it is REALLY A LONG SHOT. I think her top two choices right now would be CCU or FSU. We are not doing Unifieds, but have CCM and FSU on campus auditions and several more at GA Thespian Conf. in Feb. If you or Alexa have any pointers for her CCU on campus day please let me know. Thanks a Million! Mary-JoJanuary 2013
Austin is am AMAZING place for theatre! There is a nice mix of regional and community theatres, with everything from classical to experimental. That makes for lots of opportunities to be on stage.
UT has a really great theatre program. From what I understand there are "limited" opportunities for undergrads to be on stage because of the MFA program. So that would probably be a question your D would want to ask. If your D is interested in film, there are great opportunities to be in student films at UT. My D was in several when she was in middle/high school and they were terrific experiences for her.
I am sure you know how very difficult it is to get into UT, especially if you are OOS. It is the state flagship and the school of choice for many top students. The university is large but overall I find that the campus still has a pretty friendly feel to it. Located in a great area on the north side of downtown Austin. And of course the sports scene is big here.August 2012
Hi! I am a mom of a senior in high school who is looking at BFA Acting programs. However, she will include a few non-audition BAs and is considering UTA. Being in Austin, is there anything you can share with me about the University and, in particular, their Theatre Department? We will not have an opportunity to travel to Austin before she applies. Many thanks!August 2012
Hi! I've been following CC for a long time, but this is my first message. My S is currently a junior at a performing arts high school and we are visiting CCU in a few weeks. He is interested in their physical theatre program. I recently read some very bad reviews of CCU on **************.com. Other than the program, how does your daughter like the school? Is there stuff to do (other than theatre) on the weekends. Does a student need a car there? Is there diversity among the student body? Thank you for any info you can provide.March 2011
Hi! I spoke with you last year, and you were very helpful! How is your daughter doing at coastal carolina? My D went to Jacksonville but isn't liking it and wants to transfer, here we go....we just had a conference call with Mary Anna Denard and it sounds like she may have worked with you? We would work with pple. in NY. Was she helpfuL? Hope all is well..MarySeptember 2010
I sent you a private e-mail - well...what is the status?April 2010
She actually has not been to campus yet. She auditioned with a DVD so she is going for a visit April 21 and 22. I will get a full report from her and let you know what she thinks. Just from looking at their catalog they do seem to have an awesome marine sciences program there.
We have been really impressed with the head of their musical theatre program and how accessible he has been. The COA is very reasonable, even for an out of state student and she received a nice merit scholarship. The campus is only 20 minutes from the beach so that is a huge draw for her. And the freshmen dorms look really nice, again very appealing to her.
I'll let you know what all we find out!March 2010
Hi austinmom: I saw that your D was interested in and had visited Coastal Carolina. I was just curious about her impressions. S is a freshman in high school but I was having withdrawls after his older sisters left for college so I confess to jumping back into the college search thing. I came across Coastal Carolina today and it looks like a nice place for a kid who like sports and SCUBA. Anyway if you could share anything at all I would appreciate it very much.March 2010
Nice to "meet" you!! I'm sure my D crossed paths with yours. She attended AMT its last year in existence, has taken classes at Tex-Arts, done shows at Paramount and ZACH (she was in High School Musical at ZACH with the fabulous Kelli Schultz from Lake Travis HS!!) She did Summer Stock Austin and right now she is in rehearsals for Evil Dead-The Musical with Mike McKelvey and Ginger Morris.
Alexa is auditioning at OCU in November. It's at the top of her list with Elon and Otterbein so she is very excited. did your D enjoy her time at OCU? What is she doing now? And Sam Houston isn't really on her list although we have talked about it. Does your D like it there? This is such a nerve wracking process - my hat's off to you for surviving it twice!!
Just curious as to who you are...lol. My Ds are older than yours and maybe they never crossed paths, but thought I'd touch base with you. My Ds are Stephanie and Melissa Joiner....we live in Lakeway. They graduated from Lake Travis High School in 2003 and 2006 and have done shows at every theater in Austin over the past 15 years.....Zilker, Zach, Paramount, State, etc. They were in Austin Musical Theater's Junior Company for 8 years until AMT went bankrupt. But, I see now that Tex-Arts is taking up where AMT left off and offering great training opportunities to the kids. Tex-Arts is about 2 miles from my house, in fact, and I'm housing one of their out of town performers who is in Nunsense.
Oh, my oldest graduated from OCU (VP and MT) and the youngest is a senior at Sam Houston State's BFA-MT, dance concentration.
