    I think the answer is... have your kid do the best they can on every piece of the package. Pretty much no one is perfect on all the pieces, but being great at a couple and sufficient in the rest can give you good outcomes. And have a range of schools that are carefully chosen -- reach, match, safety, with a couple that you KNOW are affordable regardless of how the FA comes out.
