    And, yes, banks need "skin in the game" so they will lend responsibly. It's all well and good to hold these kids responsible for staffords, but anything beyond that amount, a bank needs to evaluate the risk, take on some of the risk.

    I think people on CC are missing a key point. The ones that needs to have skin in the game are the colleges themselves. The money is being given directly to the colleges and they should make sure the students in aggregate can pay the money back. If a student defaults, the college should be on the hook for all or at least half of the loan balance. That will give them the right incentives to make sure the money is being well spent.

    thank you for post #46 Consolation. The schools profit, the government profits and the kids keep paying the interest.

    This is the very definition of generational theft in action.

    Previous generations did not do this to their kids. Why are we?

    ETA: Lakeclouds what a strange except from that post where I DID point out that schools need to have skin in the game. ???? strange.

    poetgl - banks are offering a service - they are not spending the money. In terms of your charge of being "strange", most post was being specific.
