Mother of '13 grad--OCU Reflections
Well, My DD is now officially a graduate of OCU's Musical Theater program with a Bachelor of Music. I am so proud of her and very grateful for the experience, training and education that she received over the past 4 years at OCU. She is, at this very moment, in NYC as she auditioned and was chosen to be apart of the NY Showcase today for agents and industry professionals--and has plans to permanently move to Manhattan in July with fellow brand new alum. I believe she had a great mix of a liberal arts and musical theater training and she had fabulous performing opportunities. She made many NYC contacts each year during the OCU sponsored Spring Breaks in NYC--and feels completely comfortable moving there with a built-in network of alumni/friends and familiarity with the industry. Her dance training was superb; vocal training and coaching were exactly what she needed to grow; acting in my opinion was lacking just a bit (not content--it was excellent--just wish there had been more classes in the curriculum. Note: my DD auditioned during one of her Spring Breaks in NYC and was accepted into the Circle in the Square (CITS) summer program in between sophomore and junior year and focused on acting training). The summer between junior and senior year, she was "discovered" by a recording producer during a solo singing/piano gig at a restaurant and she has since then been working on writing and recording songs on school breaks. She has been flown to LA to write and record and has exciting potential in that arena. They are even willing to have her continue to write and record in NYC--as that is her desired location to pursue her musical theatre career. My daughter had tremendous training at OCU and is now ready to take on NYC and achieve her dreams...OCU...thank-you, thank-you, thank-you from the bottom of my heart!
