Housing /Meal Plan Application

HockeyMomMAHockeyMomMA 0 replies1 discussionsRegistered User
If anyone can help ...
The housing application asks for 6 choices. There are not much more than 6 options, so is it really just ranking?
Also, from your experience, do the kids tend to get one of their top choices?
I assume most kids all request the same few buildings?

Also, any food plan suggestion?

Thanks for your help.

Early decision kids who paid their deposit immediately have a great shot at getting their first choice. what may be a first choice for one is not for another. some like the luxury of colonnades, others like west area due to social and closeness to some classes.

my feeling is that having the right roommate anywhere makes the difference.

also you can be in the best building with a floor that doesn't gel or vice versa.

the key is to manage your child's expectations and encourage s/he to meet as many people in classes and organizations as s/he can. at the same time to make sure the place s/he lives meets his/her lifestyle choices.

Son did the all Access + 7 last year and will do again this coming year. He likes the extra food options provided by the +7. Did not feel +14 was necessary.

Do consider an LC for housing. Each LC has a specific location, so if you are accepted into the LC, you know the dorm and floor. Many of the LCs are in the newer dorms. Of course, still no guarantee of perfection. As Samtalya wrote, it has more to do with the roommate and the collective group of kids on the floor.

Yes, for housing it's pretty much just ranking. From my experience most kids do not get their top choice for housing. The earlier you sent in your deposit, the more likely you are to get your top choice (assuming you choose the same thing that most of the other freshmen do). My D was ED, and her roommate was EA. They got their 2nd choice. Those who wait until April 30 to send a deposit will have to take whatever's left.

In the end, it really doesn't really matter as much as you would think. WHO they end up living with/near has a bigger impact on their quality of life than WHERE they live, and who their floormates are is luck-of-the-draw. In the end, they'll end up living on Elon's campus with other Elon students, so it's usually all pretty good.
