Whatchya gonna study from now until September?

BurnOutBurnOut 14 replies2 discussions
I want to do soo much over the summer, not enough time. As for studying, I want to teach myself C++ , start MV Calc, and start learning AP Physics C.

Oh yeah, and the SATs....

Is anybody going to study an AP course over the summer? Or take a course? Or a summer program / internship ? Or just not study anything and go into a vegetative state?

Summer homework although that likely won't be much. I also want to learn C++ and will likely try to learn python as well (neither should be hard to do since I can already understand java). SAT Subject Tests in June and I'll study Math II for a while and I don't intend to review Biology Environmental and World History for longer than 30 minutes each since I'm assuming the preparation/taking for the AP test in bio/world history should have me be ready enough.

As for a program week long conference where I basically debate US federal law/treaty proposals (primarily law proposals).

I'll trust my school to teach me all I need for the AP tests I plan to do next year that I'm doing the classes (I'll still review for the test but not til April/May). The ones that I intend to self study I'll do most of the content over the summer since I don't want to cram self studying again like I did this year.

Last thing is study computer science in depth and primarily algorithms along with study chemistry not for a class but because I want to try to make either USNCO or USACO next year.

    Nothing, it's summer.
Oh well probably memorize ions because that's AP Chem summer homework and some other AP summer homework, but besides that, I wouldn't make an effort.

I'm supposed to read through a few chapters in the textbook for AP U.S. History and read "Into the Wild" for AP Language and Composition. I'll probably skim the chapters in the textbook or just look for answers to the worksheet online, though I will read the book for english. Other than that, nothing. The way I see it, summer is my three month break. I'll learn things on a whim, but I'm not going to commit to learning anything substantial.

I plan on working alot during the summer because I believe that teenagers should hold a job. I take most of my APs online so I plan on getting a headstart on AP Micro or Macro Economics and AP Physics.

Nothing. Most seniors are burnt out anyways and need to relax until college. At least I am anyways.

Oh yeah, I agree that seniors are burnt out and deserve a break this summer. However, for sophomores and juniors, the summer is a time for resume building and test preparation!

Hey Legacy, I'm not familiar with all of the olympiads, but I really want to try USAPhO. (My school doesn't offer it, I'll be paying to have the test administered for myself only). Do you know how competitive these competitions are? Are the people that make the semifinals practically science gods, or just regular students who study hard? And how much time do you plan on devoting if you want to go far either of the Olympiads you will compete in?
